ACCRA, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- A team from the Ghana armed forces rounded up 21 suspected militants of a separatist group in Ghana early Monday, officials have said.
The operation was carried out by a team of about 40 soldiers from the 66 artillery regiment in east Ghana's Ho city, and two crime scene investigators from Ghana Police Service.
They stormed the alleged training camp of the separatist group the Homeland Study Group in a forest at Kpevedui, a community along the Ghana-Togo border. In all, 20 males and one female were arrested by the team.
The security services have been following activities of the Homeland Study Group, which has been agitating for the separation of the Volta Region from Ghana over the past three years.
The Commander of the 66 Artillery Regiment Lieutenant Colonel Baba Pantoah told the media that three other suspected members of the group had escaped before the arrival of the security personnel.
"We are convinced they are members of the separatist movement," the commander said, adding that further investigations would unravel more facts.
