NAIROBI, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's wildlife agency said Tuesday it will launch a plan next month for roan antelope whose survival is threatened in the east African nation.
The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) said the recovery and action plan, which will be launched in collaboration with partners, aims to re-establish a viable population of Roan Antelope in Ruma National Park in Western Kenya county of Homa Bay and adjacent areas.
KWS said the plan identifies threats facing the species and guides on interventions required to address them to ensure effective conservation and management of the species.
"This will be achieved through a set of objectives and activities that will help address security, population and habitat management, community involvement, education and awareness, and coordination," KWS said in a statement issued in Nairobi.
It said the plan will be launched during this year's World Wildlife Day to be celebrated on March 3.
In Kenya, roan antelope species are highly threatened due to its low population.
