MUSCAT, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Oman's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) on Wednesday signed with China's Huawei a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to provide training programs for 1,000 Omani young people on 5G technology.

"The Chinese company will offer a two-year training course for that number of Omanis to be picked by the TRA," the TRA said in a press release Wednesday.

The MoU was signed by TRA Chief Executive Officer Salem Al Rawahi and Huawei Oman Regional Director Chen Bing.

Yusuf bin Abdullah al-Balushi, the head of the TRA's 5G team, said the authority has provided the required frequencies for the operation of relevant networks in the fields of transport and logistics in the country.

"Omantel telecommunications company has already launched the 5G services by the end of last year while Ooredoo, an international telecommunications company, will follow suit during the second quarter of this year," Balushi added.
