COPENHAGEN, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Barcelona have surprised the football world, announcing the addition of 28-year-old Danish Martin Braithwaite to their forward line up over Twitter on Thursday.
Braithwaite needs to undergo the formality of a medical check, but is expected to officially sign a contract that will last for the rest of the season and another four years with a 300 million euros buy-out clause.
He has a career history that was patchy at times which started in the the Danish super league with Esbjerg, took him to the English Championship with Middlesbrough and as a journeyman to the French club Bordeaux.
His career trajectory suddenly took off after signing for Leganes in Spain's La Liga in 2019 where he has scored 10 league goals.
Braithwaite becomes only the fifth Dane to ever play for Barcelona at the iconic Camp Nou stadium. He may get a chance to make his debut on Saturday when FC Barcelona meet Eibar in La Liga.
