RAMALLAH, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli army arrested on Thursday a senior Hamas leader in the West Bank, Israeli and Palestinian sources said.

In a press statement, Hamas, ruler of the Gaza Strip, said the Israeli army arrested Rafat Nasif, a senior leader of the militant group, after storming his home in the northern West Bank city of Tulkarem.

The Israeli media also reported that a senior Hamas leader was among those who were arrested by the Israeli security forces in an operation in the West Bank.

The quasi-governmental Palestinian Prisoners Club also confirmed in a statement sent to Xinhua that Rafat Nasif was among 10 Palestinians arrested by the Israeli army across the West Bank.

The Israeli army has said they were arrested for being involved in actions against Israel.
