BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.31 percent, at 3,039.67 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.05 percent higher at 11,629.70 points.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Friday moved up 3.85 points, or 0.26 percent to close at 1,495.09 points.

Some 16.70 billion shares worth 56.08 billion baht (about 1.78 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

JAKARTA -- The IDX Composite, an index of all stocks listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) in Jakarta, closed at 5,882.26 points on Friday, down by 60.23 points, or 1.01 percent against the previous trading day.

Approximately 5.59 billion shares worth more than 5.86 trillion Indonesian rupiahs (about 428.10 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the stock market.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed lower on Friday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going down 0.55 percent, or 17.65 points, to close at 3,181.03.

A total of 1.62 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.23 billion Singapore dollars (878.6 million U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 280 to 135.

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market closed on Friday with an increase of 0.70 percent compared to the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index increased by 4.79 points, reaching 693.87 points after closing.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Friday.

On Friday, VN30-Index, a benchmark index for the southern bourse, which tracks the 30 leading stocks by both market capitalization and liquidity, closed at 868.89 points, down 2.51 points or 0.29 percent.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished lower on Friday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) Index down 7.73 points, or 1.1 percent, to close at 697.01.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Friday in choppy trade as a weak yen versus the U.S. dollar initially lifted exporters and buoyed the broader market although investors opted for profits in later trade ahead of a three-day weekend here.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 92.41 points, or 0.39 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 23,386.74.

SEOUL-- Seoul shares ended lower Friday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) dived 32.66 points, or 1.49 percent, to settle at 2,162.84. Trading volume stood at 619.3 million shares worth 6.8 trillion won (5.6 billion U.S. dollars).

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand stock market's indicator, the S&P/NZX 50 index, jumped by 0.06 percent to 12,073 on Friday.
