TEHRAN, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Two Iranian border guards were killed in clashes with the "terrorists" in Iran's southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan province, Press TV reported on Saturday.
On Friday night, the guards in the border regiment of the town of Jakigor countered several "terrorists" who had advanced towards Iran seeking to attack border units, the report said.
With clashes erupted, the attackers fled to the neighboring country.
However, two Iranian guards were killed, and a number of "terrorist" sustained fatalities in the conflicts, it said.
Iran's southeastern region, bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan has been the scene of deadly clashes over the past decades between the Iranian security guards and armed groups of rebels and drug smugglers.
