BERLIN, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Wolfsburg recorded their second straight win in the league after cruising Mainz 4-0 and Bayern Leverkusen got the better of Augsburg thanks to the goals from Moussa Diaby and Nadiem Amiri at the 23rd round in Bundesliga on Sunday.

The "Wolves" have closed the gap to the top six as Renato Steffen's double strike secured all three points on home soil against Mainz.

Despite Wolfsburg's hammering victory, the visitors dominated the opening stages.

Wolfsburg though showed a clinical chance conversion and shocked Mainz when Josip Brekalo drilled the ball from 25 meters central position into the top right corner. Mainz goalkeeper Robin Zentner was able to tip Brekalo's hammer to the woodwork but he was unable to thwart the opener in the 21st minute.

The "Nullfunfer" tried to rally back but they created only half chances through Adam Szalai twice at the half hour mark.

Wolfsburg continued offensively minded and showed no mercy as Steffen headed in a loose ball after Mainz' defence were failed to clear the ball from the area just before the break.

After the break, the "Wolves started where they left off and took the wind out of Mainz' sails as Yannick Gebhardt tapped home Daniel Ginczek's diagonal pass to triple the lead in the 49th minute.

The "Wolves" kept it bowling and added another goal to their lead in the 68th minute when Steffen shrugged off three defender before netting the ball past Zentner from inside the box.
