WUHAN, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- Close to 90 percent of villages or communities have reported no coronavirus infections in Xianning, a city near Wuhan, the epicenter of the virus outbreak in central China's Hubei Province.

The city has 857 villages or communities that reported and exported no infections to other areas, accounting for 89.18 percent of the city's total, Xianning's city mayor Wang Yuanhe said at a press conference Monday.

Xianning has seen 11 deaths from the infection so far, and 445 patients have been discharged from hospital after recovery, Wang said.

The city took a variety of measures to prevent and control virus transmission, including closed-off management and reducing public gatherings. The city set up 91 isolation sites.

The combination of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine played an important role in treating infected patients, Du Guang, head of the Xianning City Central Hospital, said at the conference.

Xianning reported 836 confirmed cases of coronavirus infection as of midnight Sunday, including 10 in critical conditions.
