BEIJING, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- Leaders of political parties and social organizations from around the world have expressed confidence that China will win the battle against the novel coronavirus in messages sent to the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.
Faysal Hassan Ibrahim, secretary general of the Council of African Political Parties, expressed firm support for China's battle against the epidemic on behalf of 34 African countries and 45 political parties.
Safeguarding China is safeguarding the whole humanity, said the official.
Under the leadership of CPC Central Committee General Secretary Xi Jinping, the Chinese government and people have united as one, demonstrating strong will and firm resolve in actively responding to the challenges, he said.
China's preventive and control measures to curb the epidemic have achieved remarkable results, he said, expressing firm belief that the Chinese economy will realize fast development, and the Chinese people will enjoy even more vibrant and dynamic lives as the situation improves.
Heinz Bierbaum, president of the Party of the European Left, said that China has initially curbed the spread of the epidemic. On behalf of his party, Bierbaum expressed sincere condolences and solidarity to China and voiced support for China's economic recovery.
Bierbaum strongly condemned the discriminatory words and actions targeting Asian nationals in a few countries and the biased reports on China by certain international media, expressing confidence that China will win the battle against the epidemic.
George Papandreou, president of Socialist International and former prime minister of Greece, said that the Chinese government and people have been making unremitting efforts to fight the epidemic, which is really heroic.
Papandreou said that he is impressed by China's swift and transparent response to the crisis and voiced confidence that with joint efforts of the international community, China will tackle the challenge.
As long as we stay united and pull together, we can surely protect the health of the Chinese people and people in other countries, he said.
Panama's Broad Front for Democracy and 11 other social groups said that the Chinese government and people are making concerted efforts to fight the epidemic and promote economic development.
However, some governments and media outlets have overreacted and even spread racist remarks, the groups said, noting some countries' officials claimed that the epidemic will help bring jobs back to their countries.
The social groups condemned these narrow-minded and callous remarks, and voiced their opposition to racist discrimination and stigmatization against China.
Marwan Sudah, chairman of the Union of Arabic Journalists Friends of China, said that under Xi's leadership, the Chinese people have remained fearless in the face of crisis, and the whole nation has been mobilized to fight the epidemic and overcome the difficulties, which is a modern-day miracle.
Noting some Western countries have hit China when it is down, he pointed out that the real purpose of such actions was to curb China's development.
The Chinese nation is one that has gone through hardships and scored brilliant achievements, he said, adding the novel coronavirus cannot stop the Chinese nation from moving towards rejuvenation, but will serve as a motivating factor for China to become stronger.
More political parties and social organizations have earlier expressed their support to China's efforts in fighting the epidemic and their willingness to jointly overcome the difficulties with China. These include the International Conference of Asian Political Parties, the Permanent Conference of Political Parties of Latin America and the Caribbean, the Christian Democrat Organization of America, and the Sao Paulo Forum.
