HAIKOU, Feb. 29 (Xinhua) -- The last three national-level impoverished counties in south China's island province of Hainan have bid farewell to poverty, the provincial government said at a press conference Saturday.

The county-level city of Wuzhishan, Lingao county and Baisha Li ethnic autonomous county have met the standards and have been approved to be removed from the country's list of poverty-stricken counties, marking that all five national-level impoverished counties in Hainan have shaken off poverty, said Meng Li, head of the provincial poverty relief office.

The two other impoverished counties of Qiongzhong and Baoting cast off poverty in April last year.

Meng said the province will continue to adopt poverty alleviation measures and create more jobs to prevent people from returning to poverty.
