China's Tibet both positive and supportive amid the coronavirus outbreak

Tibet has remained positive attitude towards the coronavirus outbreak while being supportive to provide supplies to aid epidemic fight in Hubei.


LHASA, March 2 (Xinhua) -- Since the novel coronavirus outbreak, China's Tibet Autonomous Region had only one confirmed case, and the patient was already discharged from the hospital. The region has remained positive attitude since the coronavirus outbreak and has been supportive to provide supplies to aid epidemic fight in Hubei.

The Potala Palace, a UNESCO world heritage and a landmark in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, has been shut down since Jan. 27 to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus. The palace, however, held a live streaming tour session on March 1, the first time in its over 1,300-year history.

The online tour started at around 2:00 p.m. on China's popular e-commerce platform Taobao. In a one-hour session, the tour guide led viewers to visit the classical route and explained the craftsmanship of its architecture and cultural relics protection there.

It is estimated that the live streaming received about 920,000 views, more than half of the total visits the palace receives a year.

Meanwhile, the Tibet regional government donated the second batch of supply to Hubei, after the first batch of donated materials worth 8.5 million yuan (around 1.2 million U.S. dollars) were transported to the cities of Huangshi and Shiyan in Hubei on Feb. 14 .

In addition to the government donations, Tibetan folks have donated 50 tonnes of yak meat and 169,000 boxes of mineral water as well as 5,000 N95 masks, 100 medical protective suits and 200 pairs of medical protective goggles and Tibetan medicine to Hubei.
