Macao's hotel occupancy rate falls to 79.4 pct in January

MACAO, March 2 (Xinhua) -- The average occupancy rate of Macao's hotel rooms fell by 13.5 percentage points year-on-year to 79.4 percent in January 2020, the special administrative region (SAR)'s statistic department said here on Monday.

The latest report from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) showed that the rates of three-star hotels and five-star hotels dropped by 12.8 percentage points and 14.5 percentage points respectively to 81.9 percent and 80.4 percent.

There were 122 hotels and guesthouses operating at the end of January 2020, an increase of 5 year-on-year. The number of available guest rooms remained steady at 39,000, the DSEC report added.

A total of 1.09 million guests checked into hotels and guesthouses in January 2020, a decrease of 11.4 percent year-on-year.

The guests from Chinese mainland (792,000), South Korea (42,000) and China's Taiwan region (31,000) dropped by 11.3 percent, 23.0 percent and 20.9 percent respectively, while those from Hong Kong SAR (107,000) grew by 11.0 percent.

The average stay length of guests went up by 0.1 night year-on-year to 1.5 nights. Visitor-guests accounted for 78.9 percent of the total overnight visitors, a growth of 7.3 percentage points. Enditem
