CAIRO, March 5 (Xinhua) -- The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced on Thursday the beginning of applying the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in the Egyptian Premier League.
"This is a big accomplishment that will be in favor of the Egyptian football," Amr al-Ganaini, chairman of the EFA five-member committee, told a press conference.
Ganaini pointed out that the EFA signed a three-year contract with a company in charge of implementing VAR in Italy and Spain and approved by the international football body FIFA.
Ganaini said that the VAR covers 11 stadiums, including those of Cairo, Alexandria, Ismailia and Suez, noting that another five will be prepared in the near future.
He added that the VAR would minimize the hiring of foreign referees to run the Egyptian Premier League matches.
Ganaini said the EFA will cover all the costs that exceed 4 million U.S. dollars.
"The EFA works on boosting the level of the Egyptian football through keeping pace with the world's latest relevant technologies," he added. Enditem
