Lebanese minister signs Agadir agreement in Cairo

BEIRUT, March 5 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Nassif Hitti signed the Agadir Agreement on the sidelines of the Arab League Council meeting in Cairo, the National News Agency reported on Thursday.

Agadir, a free trade agreement between Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia, aims at increasing trade exchange between member states, as well as with the European Union, increasing economic integration and industrialization through the application of the Pan Euro-Med Rules of Origin in addition to attracting European and global foreign direct investment.

Hitti noted that this agreement opens the markets of member countries in front of Lebanese agricultural and industrial exports.

The agreement was launched in Morocco in 2001 and it was signed by member countries in Rabat in 2004 while it entered into force in 2007. Enditem
