HONG KONG, March 9 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong police said on Monday that they will conduct a large-scale anti-terror drill with different departments of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) government to enhance the ability to respond to local terrorism.

Yuen Yuk-kin, assistant commissioner of police, told a press conference that after further investigating into the case on Sunday in which a large quantity of dangerous goods were seized, the police found that some of the goods were highly similar to homemade bombs recently seized by the police.

"We will spare no effort to crack down on cases involving the use of explosives or ammunition," Yuen said, adding that the police will continue to examine the threat and risk of terrorist attacks in Hong Kong.

A large-scale anti-terrorism drill will be conducted later to ensure the police force is capable of coping with any situation, so as to maintain Hong Kong's security and stability, he noted.

Li Kwai-wah, senior superintendent of Organized Crime and Triad Bureau of the police force, said that over the past nine months, violence committed by rioters has been escalating and the rioters even tried to use homemade bombs to threaten the government and the public.

Li said that the police condemned these violent acts which were unacceptable in any civilized society, adding the police will step up law enforcement to prevent these incidents.
