RAMALLAH, March 10 (Xinhua) -- The Palestinian Government announced on Tuesday that it is largely cooperating with several neighboring states, including Israel, to fight COVID-19.

Ibrahim Melhem, spokesman of the government, told reporters in Ramallah that there is a need for taking joint precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the virus in the region.

"The precautionary measures which were taken in the Palestinian Territories five days after discovering the first case had prevented the expansion of the virus in Palestine," he said.

Melhem went on saying that the Palestinian government's measures "succeeded to a great extent to prevent the expansion of the virus in all other Palestinian districts, and therefore, the number of infected persons is decreasing."

He added that 26 cases had been already discovered in Palestine; 25 in the city of Bethlehem and one in Tulkarem, adding "all cases are getting the proper medications."

He said, "only one case is in critical condition and was transferred to the intensive care unit."

On Monday, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh announced that Israel and Palestine are informing each other on the cases of coronavirus that each side has.

"The main problem is with the tens of thousands of Palestinians who work in Israel, where it is hard to put medical equipment at the crossing points to check whether they are infected with the virus or not," said Shtayyeh.
