SANAA, March 11 (Xinhua) -- A Yemeni government liaison officer in the UN-led cease-fire monitor team was wounded by a Houthi rebel sniper in Yemen's Red Sea port city of Hodeidah on Wednesday, pro-government media reported.

The liaison was shot and wounded in a cease-fire observation post east of Hodeidah, al-Masdar Online reported, without providing more details.

There was no comment yet from the Houthis or the UN-led cease-fire monitor team in Hodeidah.

Hodeidah has seen a shaky cease-fire between the Yemeni warring parties since both sides reached a UN-sponsored cease-fire agreement in Stockholm in December 2018.

The agreement was seen as the first phase to end Yemen's nearly five years of civil war.

The war has pushed over 20 million people to the verge of starvation.
