NEW YORK, March 15 (Xinhua) -- The number of COVID-19 cases in the United States has topped 3,000 by 2:30 p.m. local time Sunday (1830 GMT), according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.

The fresh figure reached 3,244 with 62 deaths, the CSSE said.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which does not update figures on the weekend, reported 1,678 cases as of 4 p.m. Thursday (2000 GMT Thursday).
