Iran's int'l Mehrabad airport cuts 80 pct of flights amid COVID-19 outbreak

TEHRAN, March 16 (Xinhua) -- Tehran International Mehrabad Airport has cut 80 percent of its flights in line with the World Health Organization's instructions to contain the coronavirus pandemic, said official IRNA news agency on Monday.

Ebrahim Moradi, an aviation official at Mehrabad airport, told IRNA that efforts are underway to disinfect all equipment and installations in the airport.

All terminals at the airport have been equipped with thermal imaging system to trace the infections, Moradi was quoted as saying.

Mehrabad airport, located in the southwest of capital Tehran, is mainly used for domestic flights.

A total of 14,991 people have been infected with novel coronavirus, of whom 853 have died, said Iran's Ministry of Health and Medical Education on Monday.
