Cheng Lai-king, Chairperson of Hong Kong's Central and Western District Council was arrested on Thursday for making seditious speeches online and illegally disclosing personal data of a police officer.

HONG KONG, March 26 (Xinhua) -- The Hong Kong police said they had arrested a woman in the early hours of Thursday for acts of seditious intention.

It was reported that the suspect is Cheng Lai-king, chairperson of Hong Kong's Central and Western District Council.

Swalikh Mohammed, superintendent of Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau of the Hong Kong police, said at a press conference that the police recently noticed that a woman was making seditious speeches online and illegally disclosing personal data of a police officer and the officer's family.

The police then arrested the 60 year-old woman for breaking Hong Kong's Crimes Ordinance Section Nine and 10. The police also seized a mobile phone at the scene.

The police will further investigate whether the suspect broke Hong Kong's Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance and Interim Injunction Order of the High Court, said the superintendent.

Last year, the police found that some officers' personal data were unlawfully disclosed online during the months-long social unrest. Then the police obtained an injunction order from the High Court to restrain anyone from unlawfully and maliciously leaking the personal data of police officers, Special Constables and their families.

Unlawfully disclosing personal data online is illegal, and making seditious speeches and inciting violence also break the law, Swalikh Mohammed said, adding that no lawbreakers can escape justice.

As the further investigation is underway, the police does not rule out more arrests.
