CAIRO, March 26 (Xinhua) -- An Egyptian court on Thursday sentenced five people to death over vandalizing oil pipelines in Beheira province, northern of the capital Cairo.
In November 2019, ten defendants attempted to steal gas from the pipeline, causing a gas leakage and big fire that killed nine people and wounded other dozens.
Other five people were sentenced to 25 years in jail over the same charges.
The death appealable verdict was sent to the grand Mufti, Egypt's top Muslim religious authority, for his non-binding opinion.
