Tech giants help Chinese hero doctors share experience against COVID-19 with world

BEIJING, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese tech companies are working with leading frontline doctors, who fought COVID-19 first hand, to share the latter's experience with medical workers worldwide via the Internet and social media.

CHAT ROOM FOR DOCTORS

When Ye Baixin, doctor of a major hospital in Wuhan, central China's Hubei Province, opened a group chat room for doctors to share their experience on how to fight novel coronavirus, via social media app Wechat. The chat room reached its 500-member cap within hours.

In two days, more than a thousand doctors maxed out two chat rooms. This is when Tecent, Chinese tech giant that runs WeChat, stepped in and helped Ye create a chat room that can allow any number of doctors to join.

Now that numerous medical staff from around the world have joined the group chat room, Zhang Jingnon, head of the emergency department of the prestigious Wuhan Union Hospital is scheduled to communicate with them and share what he learned in fighting COVID-19 first hand on Saturday.

Ye plans to hold regular online seminars on COVID-19 in the chatroom.

HANDBOOK ON PREVENTION, TREATMENT

Jack Ma, founder of e-commerce giant Alibaba, organized frontline doctors to compile a digital handbook on how to prevent and treat COVID-19.

Handbook of COVID-19 Prevention and Treatment is translated into many languages. It has Chinese, English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Persian and Indonesian versions.

Trisha Greenhalgh, Professor of Primary Care, University of Oxford, tweets about Handbook of COVID-19 Prevention and Treatment on March 18, 2020.

The handbook became immensely popular as doctors worldwide are looking for information on how to deal with the new virus. The handbook has been downloaded for more than 452,000 times and viewed for over 356,000 times by internet users from around the world since its launch last week, according to Cong Feng a spokesperson for the Jack Ma Foundation.
