BAGHDAD, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi Health Ministry on Friday confirmed four more deaths from the COVID-19 and 76 new cases, bringing the total number of the infections to 458.

Up to 36 of the new cases were detected in the southern province of Basra, and 14 in the capital Baghdad, 18 in Najaf, three in Erbil, and one in Sulaimaniyah, Kirkuk, Dhi Qar, Babil and Salahudin each, the ministry said in a statement.

So far, 458 cases have been confirmed in the country, of whom 40 have died and 122 others recovered, according to the statement.

The Iraqi authorities took several measures to contain the outbreak of COVID-19, including extending a nationwide curfew until April 11.

To help Iraq cope with the coronavirus spread, a Chinese team of seven experts has been working with their Iraqi counterparts since March 7 in the fight against the viral respiratory disease, which has been largely under control in China through a nationwide anti-virus campaign.
