YAOUNDE, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Cameroon on Sunday registered 40 new cases of COVID-19, a new daily high since the announcement of the first case on March 6, bringing the total to 139, according to health authorities.

Cameroon is now one of the countries most affected by COVID-19 in sub-Saharan Africa. This latest surge in reported cases is partially explained by the fact that the Cameroonian government has decided to generalize tests for a better response to the pandemic, local media reported.

The Cameroonian government has asked people who entered the country since March 10 to contact the health authorities to be tested for novel coronavirus. A door-to-door search campaign will also be organized on April 2-7 in Douala, the country's most populous city.
