Tokyo stocks advance in morning on solid Chinese data

TOKYO, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks advanced Tuesday morning as sentiment was bolstered by data showing that Chinese manufacturing and service sector activity expanded in March, raising hopes that other parts of the global economy will see similar rebounds ahead.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 148.53 points, or 0.78 percent, from Monday to 19,233.50.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 4.13 points, or 0.29 percent, at 1,439.67.

Oil and coal product, mining and precision instrument issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.
