Morocco builds field hospital in Casablanca as COVID-19 cases surge to 1,113

RABAT, April 6 (Xinhua) -- Construction on a field hospital began in Casablanca, Morocco's economic hub, to help deal with the growing number of COVID-19 cases which soared on Monday to 339 in the city out of 1,113 in the country.

The temporary health facility will have a capacity of some 700 beds, said the local authorities of Casablanca in a statement.

The construction work was launched Sunday on an area of 2,000 square meters and should be completed in two weeks, the statement added.

A total of 92 new cases of the novel coronavirus were confirmed in Morocco on Monday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 1,113, said the Ministry of Health.

A total of 71 deaths from COVID-19 were reported while 76 patients have recovered, it said, adding that 339 confirmed cases were reported in Casablanca and 212 in Marrakech.
