URUMQI, April 8 (Xinhua) -- The Tarim oilfield branch of PetroChina, China's largest oil and gas producer, said Wednesday they had discovered a new fracture zone with petroleum reserves of 228 million tonnes.

The oilfield's output is expected to reach 30 million tonnes of oil equivalent by 2020 and 36 million tonnes by 2025, the company said in late December.

Located in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Tarim Basin is a major petroliferous basin in China and one of the most difficult to explore due to its harsh ground environment and complicated underground conditions.
