Jordan stops food exports amid coronavirus spread

AMMAN, April 8 (Xinhua) -- Jordan on Wednesday decided to ban exports of all food items.

Jordan's decision comes amidst the coronavirus spread and the closure of regional and international suppliers, Minister of Industry and Trade Tareq Hammouri said in a statement obtained by Xinhua.

He added that the ministry is studying Jordan's current supply and storage of food and has thus decided to stop exports of food items until the assessment is completed.

He added that the decision is in the framework of the precautionary measures taken to preserve Jordan's stock in light of the coronavirus crisis.

Also Wednesday, Jordan's Labor Minister Nidal Bataineh said the country decided to stop all imports from Italy.
