DAR ES SALAAM, April 13 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian police on Monday arrested 21 people in the capital Dodoma for disregarding guidelines on fighting the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Gilles Muroto, the Dodoma regional police commander, said the 21 people were arrested while gambling at Ipagala and Swaswa suburbs on the outskirts of the capital city in central Tanzania.
"Gambling attracts crowds of people, disobeying mass gathering and social distancing as directed by the government in efforts to fight the virus," said Muroto, adding that all the suspects were granted bail to avoid crowding them in police cells.
Tanzania has so far reported 49 confirmed COVID-19 cases.
