TRIPOLI, April 13 (Xinhua) -- The UNICEF said on Monday that it provided Libya with 122 tonnes of essential medicines for more than 200,000 women and children in the country.
"An estimated 225,000 women and children will benefit from some 122 tonnes of lifesaving and essential medicines and supplies that have arrived in Libya," UNICEF said in a statement.
The supplies will ensure that quality primary health and lifesaving maternal, new-born and child health care and nutrition services are strengthened to avoid preventable morbidity and mortality among vulnerable populations, especially women and children, the statement noted.
"This assistance becomes of particular importance as Libya together with the rest of the world is struggling to continue with service delivery in the very challenging COVID-19 situation," UNICEF said.
As Libya suffers escalating violence and unrest, hospitals and medical centers in the country are struggling to provide proper medical care to the people.
