DAMASCUS, April 14 (Xinhua) -- Two children were killed when a land mine went off in Syria's central city of Palmyra on Tuesday, state news agency SANA reported.

The children, who were six-year-old and seven-year-old brothers, got killed when the land mine exploded while they were playing near their home in Palmyra in the countryside of the central province of Homs, said the report.

It added that their three-year-old brother was wounded in the explosion.

The report added the land mine is part of the leftovers of the Islamic State (IS).

A day earlier, SANA said one civilian was killed and four others wounded when an explosive device went off in the central province of Hama.

The explosive device, which is from the leftovers of the IS, exploded in the Khashabiyeh area in the countryside of Hama, said the report.

Dozens of people have been either killed or wounded by similar explosions in formerly rebel-held areas in the country. Enditem
