HONG KONG, April 15 (Xinhua) -- The following are the latest developments of the COVID-19 pandemic in Asia-Pacific countries.

JAKARTA -- The Indonesian government reported 297 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the total number of infections in the archipelagic country to 5,136.

A total of 10 new deaths were registered, raising the total fatalities to 469, and 20 more people have been discharged from hospitals, making the total number of recovered patients to 446.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The number of COVID-19 cases in Malaysia totaled at 5,072 after 85 new cases were recorded, the Health Ministry said on Wednesday.

The newly confirmed cases of 85 is the first time the number dropped to a double-digit for over a month.

A total of 169 had been cured and discharged in the past day, twice more than new cases, making the total cured 2,647 or 52.2 percent of all cases.

TOKYO -- The COVID-19 cases in Japan increased by 220 nationwide, including 127 infections in Tokyo, the health ministry and local authorities said as of 4:30 p.m. local time Wednesday, bringing the nationwide total to 8,393.

The death toll now stands at a total of 179, including those from a cruise ship that was quarantined in Yokohama near Tokyo, the latest figures showed.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh recorded 219 new COVID-19 infections, the country's biggest daily increase since the detection of the first three cases on March 8.

The number of cases increased to 1,231, with 219 more cases reported in the last 24 hours as of 8:00 a.m. local time Wednesday, and four deaths including a doctor were confirmed, bringing the death toll to 50.

MANILA -- The Philippines reported 230 new infections from COVID-19, bringing the total number to 5,453.

The Department of Health also reported 14 more COVID-19 deaths, taking the death toll to 349, and 58 new patients have recovered, adding to the total number of recoveries to 353.

KABUL -- Afghanistan reported 70 more cases of COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of patients to 784.

According to the government, 31 out of the 70 newly confirmed positive cases are in Kabul, 22 in Herat and the remaining 17 cases are in other parts of the country.

NEW DELHI -- India's federal health ministry Wednesday morning said the death toll due to COVID-19 rose to 377 and the total number of confirmed cases in the country reached 11,439.

This is a jump of 24 deaths and an increase of 624 cases since Tuesday evening.

On Tuesday evening the number of COVID-19 cases in the country was 10,815 and the death toll was 353.

SEOUL -- South Korea reported 27 more cases of the COVID-19 compared to 24 hours ago as of midnight Wednesday local time, raising the total number of infections to 10,591.

Three more deaths were confirmed, lifting the death toll to 225.
