KUALA LUMPUR, April 16 (Xinhua) -- The number of COVID-19 cases in Malaysia totaled at 5,182 after 110 new cases were recorded, the Health Ministry said on Thursday.
Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said at a press briefing that among the infections, 2,766 have been cured and discharged from hospital, while 56 are currently being held in intensive care and 29 of those are in need of assisted breathing.
The official also said the number of fatalities had risen to 84 after one more death was recorded. The victim have suffered from other health problems prior to being infected.
According to the data in Malaysia, the elderly as well as those with chronic and pre-existing health conditions are the most high risk groups, as is the case globally, with those aged between 55 and 64 years old being particularly vulnerable to be infected, said Noor Hisham. Enditem
