MOSCOW, April 16 (Xinhua) -- Former U.S. spy agency contractor Edward Snowden has applied for the extension of his residence permit in Russia for another three years, Snowden's lawyer Anatoly Kucherena said Thursday.
Russian media quoted Kucherena as saying that Snowden has filed the request as his current residence permit expires this month.
Snowden, also ex-employee of the Central Intelligence Agency, has lived in Russia since he leaked secret documents about telephone and Internet surveillance by U.S. secret services in 2013.
Snowden is wanted in the United States on charges of espionage and theft of government property.
In 2019 the U.S. Department of Justice filed another lawsuit against Snowden over publication of his memoir "Permanent Record," alleging he had breached non-disclosure agreements signed with the U.S. government. ■
