HONG KONG, April 17 (Xinhua) -- The following are the latest developments of the COVID-19 pandemic in Asia-Pacific countries.

TOKYO -- Tokyo confirmed 201 new cases of COVID-19 as of Friday afternoon, local media reported, pushing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 2,796 in the Japanese capital.

It is the first time the daily increase of Tokyo has exceeded 200, a day after Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe declared a state of emergency for the entire country

KABUL -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has risen by 66 over the past 24 hours to 906 in Afghanistan, said Wahidullah Mayar, the spokesman for Public Health Ministry on Friday.

CANBERRA -- The Australian government announced on Friday a support package to guarantee that domestic flights continue amid the coronavirus crisis.

The spread of coronavirus in Australia has continued to slow, with 6,497 confirmed cases reported as of Friday morning, an increase of 0.6 percent from Thursday morning.

NEW DELHI -- India's federal health ministry Friday morning said the death toll due to COVID-19 in India rose to 437 and the total number of confirmed cases in the country reached 13,387.

This is a jump of 17 deaths and an increase of 628 cases since last evening.

YANGON -- Myanmar President U Win Myint Friday urged people in the country to cooperate and participate in combating the COVID-19 pandemic in unity as a national duty.

WELLINGTON -- Two more people died of COVID-19 in New Zealand over the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Health said on Friday, sending the total number of deaths to 11.

SEOUL -- The number of South Koreans who retested positive for the COVID-19 after having been released from quarantine with full recovery rose to 163, the health authorities said Friday.

South Korea reported 22 more cases of the COVID-19 compared to 24 hours ago as of midnight Friday local time, raising the total number of infections to 10,635.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore's Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 728 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, hitting a new daily record high and bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 4,427.

Of the newly confirmed cases, 81 percent were linked to known clusters, while the rest were pending contact tracing.

DHAKA -- As the COVID-19 virus spreads almost across the country from its epicenter in capital Dhaka initially, health authorities on Thursday night declared the entire Bangladesh at risk of the pandemic.

Professor Abul Kalam Azad, director general of Bangladesh's health services under the government's Ministry of Health, made the announcement in a statement on Thursday night.
