BEIJING, April 17 (Xinhua) -- The non-drug therapies used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) have proved to be effective in treating COVID-19 patients with mild or severe symptoms, a health expert said Friday.

Non-drug TCM therapies such as moxibustion, cupping and acupuncture have helped improve patients' symptoms such as cough, fatigue and insomnia, said Tong Xiaolin, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and head of the treatment group of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, at a press conference.

Acupuncture and moxibustion can also improve symptoms of dyspnea, diarrhea and cough for patients in severe conditions, he said.

For convalescent patients, especially those whose lung functions were damaged, the combination of moxibustion and cupping has shown to be effective, Tong added. Enditem
