HONG KONG, April 17 (Xinhua) -- The following are the latest developments of the COVID-19 pandemic in Asia-Pacific countries.

JAKARTA -- The Indonesian government reported 24 new deaths of COVID-19 on Friday, raising the total fatalities in the country to 520, the highest in Southeast Asia.

A total of 407 new cases were confirmed, bringing the total number of infections to 5,923.

ISLAMABAD -- In Pakistan, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has soared to 7,025 with 135 deaths while 1,765 infected patients have fully recovered, according to the health ministry Friday.

Out of the total 7,025 confirmed cases, the country's eastern Punjab, the worst-hit province, reported 3,276 followed by southern Sindh province that reported 2,008 confirmed cases.

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia recorded 69 new COVID-19 cases, the fewest in more than a month, the Health Ministry said on Friday.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Malaysia totaled at 5,251 after the latest increase, of which 2,967 have been cured and discharged from hospital, while 51 are currently being held in intensive care and 26 of those are in need of assisted breathing.

MANILA -- The Philippines reported 218 new infections from COVID-19, bringing the total number to 5,878.

A total of 25 more patients have died, bringing the death toll to 387.

BANGKOK -- Thailand confirmed 28 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, taking the total to 2,700 with one fatality reported.

The death toll stands at 47 and 1,689 have recovered.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh reported 15 new deaths of COVID-19 patients, the country's biggest daily increase since last month.

The number of confirmed cases increased to 1,838, with 266 more cases reported in the last 24 hours as of 8:00 a.m. local time on Friday.

TOKYO -- Tokyo confirmed 201 new cases of COVID-19 as of Friday afternoon, local media reported, pushing the total number of COVID-19 cases to 2,796 in the Japanese capital.

It is the first time the daily increase of Tokyo has exceeded 200, a day after Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe declared a state of emergency for the entire country

KABUL -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has risen by 66 over the past 24 hours to 906 in Afghanistan, said Wahidullah Mayar, the spokesman for Public Health Ministry on Friday.

CANBERRA -- The Australian government announced on Friday a support package to guarantee that domestic flights continue amid the coronavirus crisis.

The spread of coronavirus in Australia has continued to slow, with 6,497 confirmed cases reported as of Friday morning, an increase of 0.6 percent from Thursday morning.

NEW DELHI -- India's federal health ministry Friday morning said the death toll due to COVID-19 in India rose to 437 and the total number of confirmed cases in the country reached 13,387.

This is a jump of 17 deaths and an increase of 628 cases since last evening.

WELLINGTON -- Two more people died of COVID-19 in New Zealand over the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Health said on Friday, sending the total number of deaths to 11.

SEOUL -- The number of South Koreans who retested positive for the COVID-19 after having been released from quarantine with full recovery rose to 163, the health authorities said Friday.

South Korea reported 22 more cases of the COVID-19 compared to 24 hours ago as of midnight Friday local time, raising the total number of infections to 10,635.
