WARSAW, April 17 (Xinhua) -- Two-time world champion Michal Kubiak will stay in the Japanese side Panasonic Panthers for another season as he has extended his contract, informed the player's representative Georges Matijasevic on Friday.
The Polish receiver has played for Panthers since 2016, securing two titles and one silver medal. In 2018 he played for the Chinese club Beijing Volleyball on loan.
Kubiak was connected with Leo Shoes Modena recently after the Polish skipper accepted an offer from the Italian club. However, he has to change plans after the season in Italy was snapped by the coronavirus outbreak.
"The season of the Japanese league was over in February and I had to find new club to stay in good shape. Playing for Modena seemed to be the best solution for me as I wanted to join the team to help them with achieving success but the situation with the epidemy made it impossible," Kubiak was quoted as saying by Polish media.
The Pole's agent Georges Matijasevic informed via social media on Friday that the player decided to stay in Panasonic Panthers.
"One more year for Kubiak in Panasonic. Prior to arrival four years ago, Panasonic didn't win a title for couple years. He contributed with coach Paes in establishing a winning mentality. Since then Panasonic has been the most dominant team, piling up titles in last four years," wrote Matijasevic.
Kubiak's representative also unveiled that Laurent Tillie will be the new coach of Panasonic Panthers with a 4-year contract. Currently, Tillie leads France national team but will leave Les Bleus after the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Enditem
