MAPUTO, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Two police officers in Mozambique who allegedly assaulted a citizen to death while enforcing the regulations of the state of emergency are detained and will be held responsible for their actions, said a police spokesperson on Wednesday.

The victim, 44-year-old Abdul Razak, was about to film the police in the city of Beira on Sunday morning who, according to the rules of social distancing, had dispersed a group of kids playing football, but then began to play the ball themselves.

Razak was later reportedly killed by the battings from two policemen with their guns.

"Two police officers involved in this incident were arrested and there is an ongoing criminal and disciplinary process that will hold them responsible under the criminal terms," Madumane told the press in Maputo.

The spokesperson said that the authorities vehemently condemn the criminal attitude of the officers who disrespect the professional ethics.

The police has arrested more than 100 people nationwide for allegedly disobeying the rules of the state of emergency put into force since April 1. Enditem
