SHANGHAI, April 24 (Xinhua) -- The average life expectancy of Shanghai's population on registration reached 83.66 years in 2019, said the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission on Friday.
The average life expectancy for men was 81.27 years while that for women was 86.14 years in the city.
The infant mortality rate was 3.06 per thousand, while the maternal mortality rate was 3.51 per 100,000 last year, according to the commission.
The three figures show that Shanghai remains on par with leading developed countries and regions in the world in terms of residents' health conditions.
In recent years, Shanghai has made efforts to optimize the distribution of medical resources and promote a healthy way of life among its residents, according to the commission.
China has seen a rising life expectancy for its people over the years. The average life expectancy of Chinese people increased to 76.7 years in 2017 from 74.8 years in 2010. ■
