MADRID, April 24 (Xinhua) -- A report published by the Spanish Society for Sports Medicine (SEMED) and the Spanish Agency for the Protection of Health in Sport (AEPSAD) on Friday published recommendations for Spaniards once the State of Alarm is lifted and they can begin to go outside again.

Spain has been under lockdown since March 15 and in contrast with many European countries, such as Britain, Spaniards have not been allowed to go out of their homes to exercise.

Although many have tried to keep fit in their homes, SEMED and AEPSAD want to avoid any further health problems when restrictions, which are currently in place until May 9, are eased.

The report recommends that after spending at least 8 weeks in lockdown, any return to exercise "should be carried out in a progressive and individual manner to avoid any unnecessary risks."

"A return to exercise should be gradual and adapted to each person's age, physical condition and general health. The body needs a reasonable amount of time to recover," it advises.

"It is recommendable to start with gentle exercise, such as walking for between 30 and 60 minutes without stopping every day, or by carrying out series of at least 10 minutes in order to avoid muscle strains."

The two organizations also recommend that "people with chronic illnesses, cardiovascular problems or injuries should consult their doctors or a specialist and if necessary, take tests before returning to physical activities."

On Friday, the Spanish Ministry of Health, Consumer Affairs and Social Services confirmed Spain has suffered 22,524 deaths from 219,764 cases of COVID-19. Enditem
