BARCELONA, Spain, April 24 (Xinhua) -- The popular Spanish band Los Manolos has given a surprise concert on the rooftop of Barcelona's Vall d'Hebron University Hospital to show their gratitude to frontline healthcare workers.

"You who are on the frontlines, we are grateful and we want to dedicate to you an applause and unconditional support," they sang wearing masks and colourful outfits.

The song was a revised version of their famous "Amigos Para Siempre" (Friends Forever), originally written for the Barcelona Olympics in 1992, with adapted lyrics to thank Spain's medical "heroes" for their work.

Moved and fighting back their tears, nurses and doctors watched and danced to the rooftop concert dedicated to them.

The concert took place at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, at the same time when Spaniards applauded from their balconies every day in honor of health workers.

The initiative was inspired by a similar act in Italy, where a violinist performed on the rooftop of a hospital in Cremona, the Vall d'Hebron Hospital's Communications Director Fran Garcia said in a press release.

The director said the goal was to thank the professionals with a popular song known by everyone, which Los Manolos adapted for these circumstances.

"This song is dedicated to you, you deserve it, you are our heroes and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts," was the message the singers sent to all medical personnel across Spain at the end of the performance. Enditem
