BEIJING, April 26 (Xinhua) -- Live Action Role Playing (LARP) games, which originated in the United States and European countries, have become a trendy social activity among young Chinese in recent years, according to the China Youth Daily.

Interactive role-playing games, typically requiring players to portray certain characters through physical actions, are popular among those aged from 20 to 35.

With their friends or sometimes strangers, participants will play according to the storyline of different cases, wearing costumes and trying to find the murderer by the end of the game.

This type of game, bringing people back to real life from cyberspace, meets the need of young people to have offline social contact and face-to-face communication, said Yuan Hang, an owner of a LARP game studio in the city of Luoyang, central China's Henan Province.

Li Yu, in his 20s, has been working as a game moderator responsible for storytelling and organizing games.

In Li's eyes, the game can be an extension of real life. Participants who find their minds in sync in the game may eat out after games or play more LARP games together, according to Li.

Lin Yuhan, who also runs a LARP game studio, said young students can learn about the life of a doctor or a lawyer in the game, adding that the game can also help some people know more about the etiquette in ancient times.

"People always need face-to-face communication. We try to bring them back to real life from the online virtual life," Yuan Hang said. Enditem
