MANILA, April 26 (Xinhua) -- The Philippines registered 285 new COVID-19 cases, its health authorities said on Sunday, taking the country's total number of the COVID-19 infections to 7,579.
The Department of Health (DOH) said that 70 more patients have recovered from the disease, bringing the total number of recoveries to 862. However, it said seven more patients have also died, bringing the death toll to 501.
Among those who contracted the virus were over 1,100 health workers, according to Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire.
The Philippine government on Friday announced that the lockdown in Metro Manila and other "high-risk" provinces in the main island of Luzon with high cases of coronavirus infections will remain in place until May 15.
And some places in central and southern Philippines have also been put under enhanced community quarantine to ensure that the virus transmission be stopped while a COVID-19 vaccine is still being discovered. Enditem
