Would-be suicide bomber killed in eastern Afghan province

KABUL, April 26 (Xinhua) -- A would-be suicide bomber was shot and killed by police personnel in Afghanistan's eastern Ghazni province on Sunday, the country's Interior Ministry confirmed.

"A deadly suicide attack plot was thwarted in Ghazni city, capital of Ghazni province, roughly at 8:30 a.m. local time Sunday, after an officer of the Afghan National Police (ANP) shot dead a suicide bomber. The bomber was shot dead in Arezo region as he was looking to ram a Vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Device (VB-IED) among the police," the ministry said in a statement.

The car bomb also exploded during the shoot out and police personnel and civilians were not hurt in the explosion, the statement added.

The explosive-packed wagon vehicle and five guns inside the vehicle were destroyed by the force of the blast, according to the statement.

Taliban militant group fighting the government security forces has not responded to the report yet. Enditem
