Afghanistan reports 125 new COVID-19 cases, tally at 1,828

KABUL, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan on Tuesday reported 125 new COVID-19 cases, the second highest daily increase so far, spokesman of the Ministry of Public Health said.

"A total of 125 new COVID-19 cases were reported across Afghanistan within the past 24 hours. The number of infected patients in the country stands at 1,828 as of Tuesday morning," spokesman Wahidullah Mayar said.

On Monday, the country reported 172 new coronavirus ceases, the highest daily increase since the outbreak of the pandemic in mid-February.

A young female COVID patient died in southern Kandahar province Monday, taking the death toll to 58, according to Mayar.

Eight COVID patients have recovered and been discharged from a hospital in western Herat province during the period, bringing the number of recoveries to 228, the official said, adding the ministry has been conducting more than 9,000 COVID-19 tests so far. Enditem
