KAMPALA, April 28 (Xinhua) -- At least 3,407 people were killed in road accidents in Uganda in 2019, according to the latest Annual Crime and Safety Report on Tuesday.
Martins Okoth Ochola, Inspector General of Police who released the report, said a total of 12,858 road crashes were reported in 2019 compared to 12,805 recorded in 2018.
"There were 14,690 casualties from crashes in 2019, an increase of 2 percent," said Ochola.
At least 3,194 people were killed in road accident in 2018.
Some 181,960 traffic offenders were arrested for the various offences committed in 2019 and fined under express penalty scheme, according to the report. Enditem
