Oman partially resumes commercial activities amid COVID-19 outbreak

MUSCAT, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Oman on Tuesday decided to resume some commercial activities that were previously closed to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The decision was taken by the Supreme Committee in charge of dealing with the spread of COVID-19 at its meeting chaired by Minister of Interior Hamoud bin Faisal al-Busaidi.

The committee said in a statement that it decided to allow money exchange companies to resume services, and reopen workshops for repairing vehicles, vehicle rental offices, as well as equipment and machinery rental offices.

The committee also decided to reopen stores selling and repairing electronic devices and computers, stores specialized in selling stationery, printing presses and crushers, quarries as well as shops for repairing fishing boats and selling fishing gear parts.

It instructed the stores to adhere to all health requirements, including that customers are not allowed to enter into stores, and the services are limited to receiving and delivery in some activities, and in other activities, it permits a maximum of two customers at a time.

The committee decided on March 23 to close all stores and outlets inside and outside commercial centers, exchange shops and other activities, excluding food and consumer catering stores, clinics, pharmacies and optical shops.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Health, Oman recorded 82 new infections of COVID-19 on Tuesday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 2,131.

The number of recovered cases reached 364 and the death toll hit 10 in the country. Enditem
