BISSAU, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Guinea-Bissau's Prime Minister Nuno Gomes Na Biam tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), Public Health Minister Antonio Deuna announced on Tuesday night on national television.

The prime minister's infection is a community transmission case, said Deuna.

He also revealed that some members of the government have been tested and are waiting for the results.

Biam is the first member of the government to test positive for COVID-19.

In order to fight against the spread of the pandemic, the government of Guinea-Bissau has decided it's necessary to maintain the restrictive measures that have been put in place, including the closing of borders, restaurants, bars, places of worships and schools, and banning gathering of people.

A curfew has been imposed between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. and people are only allowed to leave their homes between 7:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. to go shopping and buy food.

The President of Guinea-Bissau Umaro Sissoco Embalo announced last Sunday to extend the state of emergency again across the country till May 11.

So far, Guinea-Bissau has recorded 75 confirmed cases, including 18 cured and 1 death. Enditem
